Sserinya and surrounding villages have more than 65,000 people. These include permanent residents and the passersby. The entire populace mainly relies on subsistence farming, with incomes generally low. There is only one government-aided Health Center III in the place, which is some good kilometers away from many villages.
Many people in the community suffer from common illnesses such as flu, malaria, and typhoid, among others, not because they don’t want treatment, but because they can’t afford to walk the long journey, and they have no money to pay for their treatment.
To curb this, SCOU, in conjunction with volunteer doctors, nurses, organizations, and many other well-wishers, looks for medicines that can treat common diseases. We further regularly convene medical camps at Sserinya Primary School, and these doctors do thorough checkups on people with free treatments.
