Empowering Sserinya community: A Beacon of Hope in Uganda
At the borders of Uganda’s Masaka City and Masaka District lies a beacon of hope: Sserinya Community Organisation Uganda (SCOU). Founded in 2009, SCOU emerged from the collective aspiration to address the pressing challenges faced by the community of Sserinya, and surrounding villages like Mazinga, Katina, Bulungu, Kabagabo, Kayijja, Bulando Buggya and other surrounding villages.
Confronting Challenges with Community Spirit
SCOU recognized the urgent need to tackle the low levels of education, unsustainable agricultural practices leading to environmental degradation, and the dire economic conditions in the community, that left many families struggling to afford even two meals a day. The organization was born out of a desire to create a unified voice that could advocate for change and garner support from local and national authorities, as well as volunteer organizations.
